[Lost in the Sauce] Barr tried to undermine Michael Cohen's conviction

2020.06.29 15:06 rusticgorilla [Lost in the Sauce] Barr tried to undermine Michael Cohen's conviction

Welcome to Lost in the Sauce, keeping you caught up on political and legal news that often gets buried in distractions and theater… or a global health crisis. The title refers to the second-to-last section, "AG Barr's interference."
There was SO MUCH news to cover, I couldn’t fit it all in one post. I’ll do a coronavirus-centric post tomorrow (edit: more likely Wednesday) and maybe a “miscellaneous” post later in the week… Can we put the world on pause for just a day or two, please?

More details on the Russia-Taliban story

One American official had told The Times that the intelligence finding that the Russians had offered and paid bounties to Afghan militants and criminals had been briefed at the highest levels of the White House. Another said it was included in the President’s Daily Brief, a written document which draws from spywork… The briefing document is given to the president to read and they serve as the basis for oral briefings to him several times a week.
  • On Saturday, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said Trump and Pence never received a briefing on the subject. On Sunday, the ODNI declined to say whether the intel was included in the daily brief. Critically, the ODNI never said the reports weren’t true.
Trump responded to the reports by casting doubt on the bounties and attacks themselves, targeting the media instead for publishing the intel: “Probably just another phony Times hit job, just like their failed Russia Hoax. Who is their ‘source’?” (tweet)
  • UPDATE: Late last night Trump claimed that American intelligence didn’t find the reports of bounties credible enough to tell him about, tweeting: “Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or @VP. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News @nytimesbooks, wanting to make Republicans look bad!!!”
U.S. intelligence officers and Special Operations forces in Afghanistan alerted their superiors as early as January to a suspected Russian plot to pay bounties to the Taliban to kill American troops in Afghanistan.
  • Two officials said the information about the bounty hunting was "well-known" among the intel community in Afghanistan, including the CIA's chief of station and other top officials there, like the military commandos hunting the Taliban. The information was distributed in intelligence reports and highlighted in some of them.
The Russain bounties are believed to have resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members… The intelligence was passed up from the U.S. Special Operations forces based in Afghanistan and led to a restricted high-level White House meeting in late March.
  • The administration’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, preferred confronting the Russians directly about the matter, while some National Security Council officials in charge of Russia were more dismissive of taking immediate action, the official said.

More problematic nominees and undermining of agencies

In a previously undisclosed conference call last year, a senior Justice Department official rejected key aspects of the Trump White House plan to dismantle the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), saying moves to abolish the crucial, little-known agency were unlawful. Those steps and others to undercut OPM could pave the way for installing political cronies throughout the ranks of the nation’s two million federal civil servants and weaken their protections.
  • In April 2019, Steve Engel, the head of the Justice Department’s powerful Office of Legal Counsel, told senior administration lawyers that it would be illegal to carry out a White House blueprint to dismember OPM… That legal “opinion,” as the notes call it, was never shared with a House oversight panel that held two subsequent hearings last year on the White House proposal…
  • Background: “Trump administration plans to dismantle agency overseeing civil service,” CNN, April, 2019
Another aspect of the documents obtained by POGO (above) is the revelation of evidence that White House Advisor James Sherk sought a legal opinion to allow Trump to fire anyone In government… From the earliest days of the administration, officials have sought ways to weaken federal sector unions and reduce the pay, benefits, and workforce protections of federal employees. Many elements of the memo became federal policy nearly unchanged from how Sherk first proposed them.
Trump intends to nominate senior Housing and Urban Development appointee John Gibbs to run OPM. Gibbs is a former conservative commentator who sent tweets during the 2016 election pushing a baseless conspiracy theory alleging that Hillary Clinton had engaged in a Satanic ritual known as "spirit cooking."
The new Trump-appointed CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Michael Pack, is being sued for the mass firing of top executives and advisory boards of federally funded international broadcasters in what was described as a “Wednesday night massacre.” The lawsuit alleges that Pack violated a clause in federal broadcasting law that protects government-funded news outlets from political interference.
  • Related: The president’s fiscal 2021 budget would eliminate funding for Stars and Stripes, essentially forcing it to cease operation. The Stripes retains editorial independence and is mandated by Congress to be governed by First Amendment principles. It often publishes content meant to hold the Defense Department accountable.
The White House is intensifying an effort to hire Pentagon personnel with an undisputed allegiance to President Trump at a moment when his relationship with Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper has become strained… White House officials are now redoubling efforts as Trump complains to aides that he has never had a defense secretary who is fully aligned with his foreign policy views and accuses Pentagon officials of trying to undermine him
More than 50 advocacy groups are calling on senators to oppose Anthony Tata, President Donald Trump's nominee to be Pentagon policy chief. Tata has been under fire for tweets calling former President Barack Obama "a terrorist leader" and calling Islam "the most oppressive violent religion I know of."
  • KFile revealed that Tata had called Obama “a manchurian candidate” — i.e., a sleeper agent — for “Hamas & Muslim brotherhood.” In other tweets, Tata accused the Obama administration of “sedition and/or treason” and threatened former CIA director John Brennan: “Might be a good time to pick your poison: firing squad, public hanging, life sentence as prison b*tch, or just suck on your pistol. Your call. #Treason #Sedition #crossfirehurricane #Obamagate.”
Trump said he plans to nominate William Perry Pendley to permanently lead the Bureau of Land Management, which has not had a Senate-confirmed chief since Trump took office. Pendley is an anti-environmental extremist who has pushed for the government to sell off millions of federal acres and called climate science “junk science.”
Consumer Product Safety Commission nominee Nancy Beck draws bipartisan opposition from lawmakers over her background in the chemical industry, including relaxing rules on dangerous chemicals linked to serious human health problems. Over 90 scientists are also opposing her nomination.

What is Congress up to?

Three Republican senators - Graham, Cotton, and Blackburn - introduced a bill this week to allow law enforcement access to encrypted digital devices with signed court orders. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden has vociferously spoken out against the bill.
  • Explainer: “The False Promise of ‘Lawful Access’ to Private Data,” The Wired
The Senate Judiciary Cmte. advanced a measure to give the DOJ IG more power to investigate department lawyers, over the objections of AG Barr. Chairman Lindsey Graham tried to water down the bill by giving Barr the ability to veto investigations by the IG, but the committee voted it down. The legislation is now under McConnell’s control.
Senators are pushing U.S. intelligence leaders to publicly testify about global threats before the monthlong August recess, in part to avoid their comments from being politicized during the final stretch of the 2020 campaign.
House approves statehood for DC in 232-180 vote, but it is unlikely to get a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate.
  • Republican Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.) on D.C. Statehood: "Yes, Wyoming is smaller than Washington by population, but it has three times as many workers in mining, logging and construction, and ten times as many workers in manufacturing. In other words, Wyoming is a well-rounded working-class state… What vital industries would the new state of Washington represent? Lobbying? Bureaucracy? Give me a break. By far, the largest group of workers in the city are bureaucrats & other white-collar professionals.”
  • Mother Jones: It was a startlingly blunt assertion—that Washingtonians should be entitled to fewer rights because they are simply the wrong kind of people… [DC] still has a higher percentage of Black residents than any state. The contention that places with large non-white populations would be too inept—or would lack the proper values—to govern themselves and others has been used to block statehood and home rule repeatedly in the nation’s history.
  • Republican Sen. James Risch (Ida.): If DC and Puerto Rico become states, "I will be the last Republican chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee forever because they will pick up four Democratic seats that will never flip over. ... Republicans will never be in the majority in the United States Senate,” he said.

Court cases and rulings

On Thursday, the Trump administration submitted a SCOTUS filing arguing the high court should declare the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA) invalid. The administration, in a case brought by Republican AGs, posits that the individual mandate is unconstitutional and therefore “the entire ACA must fall.”
  • More than 20 million Americans could lose their health coverage and protections for people with preexisting health conditions also would be put at risk if the court agrees with the administration in a case that won’t be heard before the fall.
  • Op-Ed: Overturning the ACA will make COVID-19 much worse
  • Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the Trump administration does not have the “exact details” of a health care alternative in case they get their way and the Supreme Court wipes out Obamacare… Republicans have had 10 years to come up with a replacement plan and failed to do so. (video)
A three-judge panel of the DC Appeals Court ordered the dismissal of the case against former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, overruling District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan. The 2-1 ruling was authored by Trump-appointee Neomi Rao, who has repeatedly handed down opinions benefiting Trump and his aides that rely on highly dubious legal reasoning.
  • The case could be heard by the full DC Court of Appeals if either Sullivan or any active DC appellate judge requests it.
  • Further reading: How Michael Flynn’s Defense Team Found Powerful Allies: The lawyer who took on the Flynn case had private calls with President Trump, wrote a secret letter to AG Barr, and months later saw the DOJ drop the case.
District Judge Amy Berman Jackson has ordered Roger Stone to report to prison July 14, denying the two-month delay requested by his lawyers and the DOJ due to the coronavirus. Jackson has also ordered Stone to remain under home confinement until his surrender date.
  • A day after Jackson’s ruling, Trump retweeted a story about a petition for the president to pardon Stone
A Queens County, N.Y., Surrogate’s Court judge on Thursday rejected a request to bar President Trump’s niece, Mary L. Trump, from publishing a tell-all book about the family because the court lacked jurisdiction in the case. Charles Harder, a lawyer for Robert Trump, said he would now file suit in the New York State Supreme Court, which is a lower-level court in the state, in an effort to stop Simon & Schuster from publishing the book on July 28.
  • Mary is a clinical psychologist and reportedly uses her background to dissect “a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse,” including “the strange and harmful relationship between” her late father and Donald Trump.
A judge has ruled that Rep. Devin Nunes has no right to sue Twitter over statements made by a fake Internet cow, someone parodying his mother, and a Republican strategist.

AG Barr’s interference

Since we had a thread about the hearing on political interference by the AG, I won’t go into details again here. Instead, you can check out this Twitter thread of video highlights and Courthouse News’ summary.
Just as the hearing was getting underway, AG Bill Barr agreed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee for a "general oversight hearing" on July 28, following Chairman Nadler’s threat of a subpoena. It is not clear why Nadler accepted such a long delay, as his subpoena was for testimony on July 2. Barr isn’t busy, he was just on Ted Cruz’s podcast.
Some House Democrats are pushing to impeach Barr, by Speaker Pelosi stands in their way. Rep. Steve Cohen plans to file a resolution calling for an investigation into whether Barr has committed impeachable conduct. Chairman Nadler has stated his openness to impeaching Barr, as well.
  • Pelosi: “Barr is a mess who’s disgraced the Department of Justice,” she said. “He is contemptible, there’s no question about that. But at this point, let’s solve our problems by going to the polls and voting on Election Day.” (video)
  • Op-Ed by Asha Rangappa: "Put another way, Barr has the potential to inflict more damage on the U.S. than even the president because he can use the levers of justice to stonewall investigations, bury evidence, and provide a veneer of legality to illegal acts."
One day later, the New York Times reported that Barr tried to pressure SDNY to undermine the part of Michael Cohen’s conviction that implicated the President in financial crimes. He went so far as to instruct Justice Department officials to draft a legal memo casting doubt on the legitimacy of Cohen’s conviction.
  • Former DOJ spokesman Matthew Miller: “Why would Barr attack the legal theory underpinning the conviction of someone who had already turned on Trump? Because that same theory would’ve been crucial to charging Trump, his business, and one of his top execs.”
  • Reminder from a 2018 article: Trump pushed then-acting-AG Whitaker on why more wasn’t being done to control the SDNY prosecutors who brought the case against Cohen. The president of the United States, in that moment, was essentially pressuring an acting official whose job hangs on his personal whims to shut down an investigation into himself.
Jay Clayton, Trump’s nominee to take over the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office after the abrupt dismissal of SDNY U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman, refused to say whether he would recuse himself from pending investigations involving Trump’s interests and associates if confirmed for the post.
Clayton also admitted to playing golf with Trump numerous times, including the day that they agreed he’d be nominated to Berman’s position… Video of the questioning below:
Rep. Katie Porter: Do you think independence from the President is possible if you and the President are golfing buddies?
Clayton: I absolutely do.
Later, Porter: How many times have you and President Trump golfed together?
Clayton: I'm not going to get into— This is, you know, it's...

Voting rights

The Census Bureau said on Tuesday that it had created two new top-level positions and filled them with political appointees from outside the agency, an unprecedented move that revived concerns the national population count has turned increasingly partisan. Critics fear the appointments are another way for Republicans to bend census results to advance their electoral interests.
The Federal Election Commission is losing its short-lived quorum after Caroline Hunter, a longtime Republican commissioner of the FEC and former chair of the agency, is resigning… Her departure from the agency means that the FEC will be unable to make major enforcement actions.
Seven years ago from last Thursday, the Supreme Court gutted the most powerful provision in the Voting Rights Act of 1965, undermining a law regarded as the most effective piece of civil rights legislation in American history. A bill passed by House to restore the VRA has been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk for over 200 days.
  • States that previously had to approve voting changes under Voting Rights Act have closed 1,688 polling places since SCOTUS gutted the law (count as of last Fall): 750 in Texas, 320 in Arizona, 214 in Georgia, 126 in Louisiana, 96 in Mississippi, and 72 in Alabama.
  • John Roberts has been trying to weaken Voting Rights Act since he was young lawyer in the Reagan Justice Department. “Violations of [VRA] should not be made too easy to prove" he wrote in 1981.
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) on Tuesday blocked an attempt by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) to push legislation through the Senate that would promote mail-in voting and expand early voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. “There has been a real desire at the federal level to take over the elections process, I don’t think that’s a good idea, and if it was a good idea, it wouldn’t be a good idea six months before the election,” Blunt said.
Despite a surge of absentee voting, consolidating polling locations in the city of Milwaukee reduced turnout by nearly 9 percentage points, disproportionately affecting Black voters. Using the pandemic for reasoning, the number of polling places in Milwaukee City were cut from 182 in 2016 to just five for this year’s primary. In the rest of Wisconsin, the number of polling places dropped by 11 percent.

2020.05.16 02:08 Clash_Town How did the characters axtually meet and become friends?

In origins (in the battle fields of the great war) we see how the characters has met for the first time. But in CoTD there's a radio that richtofen says in it that he making expriense on 4 characters.
The Mexican guy: Richtofen broke his brain.
The american spy brought from Verrukt (Dempesy which replaced the Mexican guy's place): Richtofen said that Dempesy seems like he forgot who is he but he still hostile and shout at everone.
The russain (Nikolai): Richtofen said his brain only functions with Vodka.
The Japanese (Tokoe) : he stays calm saying Japanese things.
So the events that happened in the radio were in der riese which means this was during in the date of WW2 (also in on of the radios we hear dempeys shouting at Richtofen "keep your filthy hands off me you Nazi"). So how did the characters actually meet? What's the secret behind the exprients Richtofen did on them? Do they remember any thing of it?

2020.04.15 16:58 lifeisaliebutthatfin Where the fuck is dean

Okay people are you read the rest I'm going to let you know right now that whether I was preceiving like correctly or not if you touch a hair on this f****** person's head I will f****** kill you. I don't care how old are young he was. Unless he was underage in which case I should go to prison. But he said he was 17 when I was 16 so I think that's his fault. And he is the person who asked for my age in gym class. And I'm pretty sure I told him the truth. If not it's because I've been lied to my whole life.
His full are initials DES. He was born Nov 20 1992 adopted from from Russia on may 20 but he met his parents a few years before they adopted him to keep the ...? Price down? He also had a chance to be adopted buy a family in England. He had his head bread box hit on his head while he was still in Russia. He was also so cold slept with this hand between his thighs. He saw a kid get beat the fuck up because he pressed all the elevator buttons. When he came over to America the fist thing he was given was a chocolate bar. His parents druged him for the fight home because he was acting neurotic and scared. Once he got to America he landed in Texas. His parents took him to speech therapy and taught him how to play chess which was the first board game he learned. He backed his parents to adopt another brother which they did. He was teased at school because of his accent. He use to flip girls skirts up . He got a bad injury at Chuck-E-Cheese when he was running on the hardwood floors with socks on and slide and bashed head on the table. When he lived in library his first girl friend was ran over while she was riding a bike on a hill. He was always flipping wemon skirts up as a kid and was strangely close with his baby sitter who let him brush her hat and us her but as a pillow.... The more I think about that the more I think it wierd. He secretly bought a N64 with his own money and I think was scolded for it I think. He moved to Cleveland and started developing behavioral issues. His parents were slightly abusive to him. When he was swimming on vacation he was almost pulled into the undertow. he and parents had an argument in the car on the way back. Where he hoped out of the car and ran into the woods. When his mother can to look for him he bashed her head in with a log then his father tried to run him over. He went to juvie after that. He went to an alternative school after he got out where he movies to Cleveland and lived in the country on some farm land. when he tried shrooms on time he played around in a sewig pond witch chasing purple ducks. in 6th grade in school he got caught with a by officer phillip. The friend group he hung out with was NG,RO,Nick something, frank, Charles something, so far Mexican dude that once said if she's darker then me it ain't gonna be and probably a few others that I don't know about. He was taught how to drive by a State trooper uncle. His favorite food was Chinese. He graduated in 2011. He started welding school soon after he got kicked out of the dorms because he was drunk, he got in a car accident in the winter of 2012 and got a black Concord I think. When he was going to rehab he stayed at my Grandma's place for a bit. After that he went to a group home in the oaks. He was a 1900 in chess. He had several medals from tournaments. In his first tournament his mother cheer for him. His favorite video game with Star Fox 64 .His fist job was at a blueberry patch, his second was a dishwasher at an elderly home, is third was at Walmart this was at holmes he lost it when i moved in and sold weed did a little meth bashed someone on the back of the head with a bottle so someone caught his car on fire, is 4th was a UPS package handler. He went back to the dishwasher thing at one point, then he worked in construction and clay comma, then the final job I know about was him being a car wash or a dealership somewhere in Kansas. It was next to Ikea I don't f****** know. When he was working at Walmart he was living Martin City. He lost the job but still need to keep his apartment so he invited me over. Where I pan handled blue some guys and did clinical trials for cash. He got arrested and I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford the apartment so I had to let it go. I'm really not good at this adult s***. Then he moved back in with his parents and started the dishwasher job again. Then he found an apartment in Belton, then near boardwalk, then in the unicorn apartments. He stayed in his car outside my parent's house in between those apartments. He had a welding degree but never can make use of it. he used to pick me up at the church closest to my house because my father didn't like him. it was kind of a roundish church that I made fun of because it could have a pentagram perfectly painted on the basement floor. I left out all the stuff that we did together most of it at least because just in case it wasn't real. But I still do the guy and I want to know if he's okay. He killed himself in June 10th 2017 in Salem North Dakota. Where is this guy soul so I can go there.
I'll probably places stories of what we did together here. Just in case they are dead I don't want to forget. Well if he's alive I'm probably going get my ass kicked. They would be pist. Lol buzz buzz deanoreno.
Well let's start writing the figment of my imagination.
It all started when he noticed I carried a biology book around. We had the class before and last period together witch was hystory. I was once making a boat out of Legos and he made comments about how it kept breaking apart. After that we started playing chess together in hystory. One of his friends invited me over to their table so I did. The fist time he told me he loved me was and accident. Then they switch it up and told everybody that he loves Kevin. When the kid were playing kickball we were swinging on the swings and talking about life. Kevin once got us so we could go take leaves at the other school. I didn't know he would feel embarrassed about it or not so I didn't sit with them that day. At the end of that year he wrote his number in my yearbook and gave me his email. I was stupid about emails and I thought you had to use the same website so I made the x-tank account and his was saint.pete. we talked online and I joined icc for him over the summer. The fist song he sent me went "I miss you I want to see you again" and that's all I remember. After that summer he asked me my age at gym class. We started staying at the school for lunch so we could play chess during it. We were playing a fighter game during the end of the class before lunch. That had Ninja gaiden in it. One time he mentioned prom but didn't really ask. He asked. I said yes but told him that it was weird that he asked and we never went out before. He said that play chess counted. I reluctantly agreed. He asked me to a movie for our fist date. I copied him and wore a jean vest. We went to see behind enemy lines and ate Chinese buffet. I never paid attention to what he wore except the black vest. I think it was the second where he took me to meat his family. I road on his parents tractor and we took a walk in the woods. Told me to watch out for raddle snakes and showed me his parents fruit trees. We laid on the grass and made out. They had chicken pot pie for dinner and when where were on the way out I pointed out the stars. Not on the same day but I'm going to just get it out of the way here..... He showed me his gauntlet which he would fill up with his blood and drink out of it. We also played ñ64 his favorite game was his starfox game. We also got into other shenanigans but I've been told that was wrong for some reason. We were running to his room when he told me how fucking loud my steps were went to easter diner with us played a roman killing game that when you scream into the mic you gain more power i alsmo pass out. not because of the game mosly because i wasnt eating.

2020.04.05 17:40 ShodoDragon 77000Rub A month

Hello I am a American and my girlfriend is Russain. I told her I didn't want to get married because I am scared she will be a scammer in the end and she said okay but she asked if I wanted to live with her in Russai. We been dating about a year now so I'm less scared but it's still there a little.
Anyways the real reason I am here is because I never been to Russai but ik it's cheaper than America so I wanted to know how much does it cost to live in Russai a month? Can I get by with about 1,000usd or 77000rub rounded up according to google? Is that to little to much what do you think the living cost for three people would be? Vladivostok is where it will be at if that matters, and her family has a house we can stay in for free

ok im actually fucking done i have enough with this this game i remember when the game was actually fucking good in like 2018 now they ruined im actually crying right now cus i remember this i fuckign hate this game i can texplain all the complaints i have in less than 50,000 words without fully making mt point i have no idea were to start this game used to be good in like febuary when i started i had no idea how to play it was actulaly enterating no tryhards no clans at the time very few teams the map was nice the main menu was good but it became fucking horrible after a lot of updates it look like a gay ass mobile game now and in march i started gettin good and was getting noticed in the community at this point i was in the little big snake discord server everyone was nice it was all good they had good moderators key word "had" anyway march was a good month for lbs i was still enjoying the game april of 2018 was also a huge grind in skill i really dont remember but i think the shop came out in that month and i fnished my skin thing the skins were good 60 skins i liked the game at that point still enjoying it, in may of 2018 i was super known in the community for skill not really scores; more on this topic of scores during that time russains learned how to get in bot servers and abused it and got scores and people actually were suprised to taht and like looked up to them that made me really annoyed cus they used literally no skill what so ever in thoose scores also during that time a old player named RestInPieces and ItsSnow made a clan called RNR it was really popular thye invited me to join i was in it for about a month or so i really dont remeber much about that experince though cus it was over a year ago i was also on vacation for about 2 weeks in that time period, june of 2018 i still reallyd enjoyed the game i had very few issues, i really dont know if this was in june it was somewhere around that time where litterally every single russain was apart in the bot server bs anyway the created a discord server called alpha clan or something they invited me to join i tiook apart in a few sessions not much though because of they werre in russia and i was in us so their was a lot of lag anyway back to snow and rip they knew how to get in a bot sevrer in na servers the ojnly people in na that knew about the bot servers and how to get in them were rip, snow and queen mother; they were all part of rnr they somtimes let me in at that point i had no idea how to get in one about a week went by and i found out how to get in one with about 5 hours of testing and then qm (queen mother) started dming me cus she also played in the na bot servers, she started fuckign threating me and asking me how i got in there she kept saying who told you how to get in one or whatever im not goign to share the whole story cus i dont feel like it but we did have about 1000 dms together we adventualyl became friends. july of 2018 this month went fine (btw sorry if i messed up any of the times here i actualyl dont really remember the dates that most of theee happaned on, its close though) i enjoyed the game at this point i was out of school on summer break i had a great time no stress from the regualar servers and teams so i was mostily grinding in the bot servers at that point at peak i was at 3rd place there was still over 40 russain players doing there team bot server strats or whatever. nothing really happened in this month to be completely honest. (im super tired there is still so many things i have to cover in this thing im writing and im highly confused i know a lot of other things happened in theese months but keep in mind this was about 11 months ago anyway im going to take a break ive been typing for about 10 minutes now im going to play a diffrent game) alr it been about a hour later. so its augest now i believe, the game was good i didnt have to deal with teams or other things i still used bot sevrers that made me happy it was actually entertaining (just want to clarify this real quick i ddont think i said it b4 litearlly clans were becoming really annoying literally evryo9ne was some sort of wannabe like put "ybr" in their name or something cringe like that, it really cringed me out and thats somethign i hate about the game) also in this month there was a lot of drama on the lbs discord server i dont realyl remeber what but i kno there was, i also left rnr clan, uhm at this point i was still in bot servers so nothing really happened in the game other than i left rnr and some other things, outside of social media a lot happened in discord i dotn want to talk about it all though (ok im really tired i want to do something else right now ill finishi this tommorow or something ill make another post about it, and i would post this in the lbs discord i got banned from that for actually the most stupidest reason ever ill toalk about that in like a few days in a new post ill make about this finishing everything i find bad about this game and ill talk how i got banned ill post another thing about this in like a few days im goign to do something else theres still a lot more to explain nothing really happend during this time thats actualyl interersting, i also get out of school tommorow on friday, k im going to go now bye)

2017.03.20 18:13 DDE93 Russian monarchists gather in St Petersburg a century late

The Self-Chosen People

Maria Bashmakova watched and listened the participants of the Imperial Forum in Saint Petersburg.
Saint Petersburg is the cradle of three Russian revolutions. At the centenary of the second one, March 11th 1917 (26 of February Old Style) the monarchists convened an “Imperial Forum”. “Ogonyok” takes a look at the people flying the imperial tricolour and yearning a Tsar in modern Russia.
White columns, imperial black-yellow-white flags, placards with heroes (loyal to their Lord and the Fatherland) and villains (februarist traitors)… The stylistics of the Imperial Forum in St. George’s room (of course!) of Congress-Hall on Vasilyev island were carefully and meaningfully crafted.
The event itself is dedicated to the outcomes of the February revolution (officially it goes as “Centenary of the February coup. From catastrophe to revival.”) But the “beginning of a Russian civilizational catastrophe that continues to this day” is not the only talking point. There is also the “search for paths of growth of traditional Russian statehood”, that is future tactics. The past and present are seriously intermixed. A TV loops a film about the February revolution. Merchandize includes flags and books of “allied organizations” with topics ranging from GMO and current affairs in Ukraine to Paul I, canonization of whom is carefully promoted by certain people.
The bill is footed by the Russian imperial movement (RIM) and the Coordination council for the patriotic forces of Saint-Petersburg. There were 1 speakers and about 200 visitors. However, according to the organizers, at a present point in time numbers don’t matter. As a video posted on RIM’s site proclaimed, “the forum will gather the elite of national-conservative political and social forces”. The video was recorded in RIM’s headquarters, which also happens to be the company of the Movement’s St Petersburg coordinator, Stanislav Vorobyov, on Bolshoi prospect in the Petrograd district.
Who are the Imperials?
The Imperial Forum is a first, but there is past experience – in 2011 RIM arranged an Imperial Assembly. That Assembly focused on discussion of legitimacy. The conclusion was, the Russian Empire never officially ceased to exist, simply put, formally “the monarchy is still around”. As to the Russain imperial movement, of course it’s a bit younger.
”RIM dates back to 2002 and the first issue of its Imperial Courier magazine. Back then several Saint-Petersburg organizations folded together: the Russian Imperial Alliance-Order, represented by the first-wave emigres Dmitry and Konstantin Weimarns from Canada, he All-Russians monarchical centrist party, and various minor participants in the form of ‘friendly media’”, Stanislav enumerates.
He’s 56, he’s a self-employed lawyer. He found Orthodox Christianity two decades ago, later he became a monarchist and a Russian nationalist [in Russian politics read: ethnonationalist – ed.]. He believes that Orthodox Christianity is integral to Russians on a genetic level and expresses itself as “ethical values”. Vorobyov explains that RIM is a network, not a hierarchy, with chapters in various cities. According to the leadership, it’s a low-cost project supporting itself through donations and income from issuance of books and a newspaper. It has a website and sociat media groups (the RIM group in VK counts 9796 subscribers, although it’s unclear how many are active monarchists and how many are “keyboard warriors” and bots). Overall, there is public interest. However, there is no membership list. The self-described nationalist-monarchists are supported by the Great Russia party, if only ideologically according to Vorobyov. Overall he prefers to refer to the imperial movement in the collectivist terms of “we”.
”RIM is a cloud architecture that includes tens of cities,” Vorobyov says, “No-one can name the number of followers. It’s enough to proclaim oneself a member of the RIM. Local RIM leadership does not induct new members, but it can push for a public expulsion of a member for wrongdoings. Such as apostasy. Our organization is political, therefore by definition its aim is acquisition of power. This is a strategic objective that includes reestablishment of traditional Russian statehood. The tactics are broader: we educate the populace on the history of the Russian Empire. We consider the Russian people God’s Second Chosen. We, Russians, are the new Judeans! But this station is a Cross to be born, a status to which we must uphold ourselves to. If we had been up to it a century ago, there wouldn’t have been a revolution. Luckily, the filth from the human and collective soul can be washed off by atonement. Internally, the soul forever remains pure…”
Monarchists recognize traditional values. They reject usury (from their viewpoints, banks are to act as participating investors [I’ve encountered Christian finance activists, they’re basically our other Islamic banking proponents – ed.]). Furthermore, the members of the Movement reject recognition of homosexual relationships, participate in anti-LGBT rallies, support further efforts against ethnic crime groups, a ban on juvenile justice [in Russian politics, anything from hyperactive Child Services to allowing corporal punishment – ed.] and protection of the Russian language. Their short-term plans include rather traditional events. That includes a standing prayer at Savior-on-Blood on March 15th…
Gonna cut it short, I don’t know my Russian Orthodoxiese in English.
”When the society achieves orientation towards traditional values, the authorities will convene an All-Russian Sobor to choose the new dynasty,” Stanislav asserts, “But the liberals in power are our ideological enemies”.
Vorobyov belies that adopting traditional values is a sing of “intellectual maturity”. While monarchists do allow for some adoption from foreign examples, they rule out “comprising on values”.
As to Russia’s future? Stanislav expects a resurgent Empire. As to the personality of the Tsar he responds with the question: do you start building a house from the roof or from a foundation? Therefore, the foundation, that is the popular opinion, has to be prepared first. In Vorobyov’s opinion, the society isn’t just mature enough for monarchy but is overmatured. The ideas of communists and liberals had their chance, and failed, which caused rejection by the populace. Therefore, all that is left is the monarchy. And according to the monarchist, a monarchy is first and foremost a paternalistic relationship between the state and the people. He comments that Russians are genetically monarchists and itself expects a paternalistic government. Stanislav does not see himself as separate and claims that the Russian imperial movement will dissolve itself upon establishment of the monarchy as it would have, akin to Herzen, fulfilled its purpose. Vorobyov does not have ambitions to become an anointed sovereign.
Waiting. Still Waiting.
The discussion of the wants of the Russian patriot has attracted a serious audience: males 30 to 75, most of them with traditionalist beards. Aside from the secular and the plainclothes, there were Orthodox priests, an Old-Ritualist chanter (do not confuse with regular Orthodox or Old-Believers!), men in military fatigues with Novorossiyan rebel insignia and a grey-haired Cossack. Revolution and the Empire are issues of state importance, attracting mostly men and but a handful of women, only one of whom was a speaker – Valentina Borbova of Moscow’s National-conservative movement.
They began with a prayer for Tsar and the fatherland and a requiem for those who have fallen in defense of the faith Tsar and the Fatherland (a favorite of the monarchists, Our Sovereign Lady icon, was prominently displayed). At the conclusion of the event was another prayer, after which the priest addressed the flock. He was short and emotional – speaking on the descendats of revolutionaries who dominate the media. And for some reason declared that Stalin is forgotten and Nikolai II is not. At the end he called for the defense of the Tsar, who, however, did not need defending. At every mention of the monarch the man next to me enthusiastically crossed himself.
The promised elite arrived. Monarchists are big on subordination: the Forum was opened by the eldest and highest-status guest, duke Dmitry Shakhosvskoi from Paris. Much was spoke about the West’s Russophoia, the “lost Russia” and the betrayal of Imperial generals. They were quiet and orderly. The closest they got to disruptive was deacon Vladimir Vasilik, who expressed regret that there hadn’t been enough will to mow the protestors down with armoured cars in 1917, and that the whole of Petrograd did not go on hunger strike until the revolutionaries crawled to the Tsar begging for mercy. Everything due to “liberal rot of the brain”. Vladimir, who has previously spoken for imprisonment of critics of the president of Russia, matched expectations with his militancy. And spoke passionately about the presidents high rating – unlike Nikolai II. The opposition was not overlooked.
”And no matter the efforts of fancily-dressed professional protestors, they will never have the people on their side. We need a great Russia!”
”Amen!” the audience responded.
What follows is not a joke. They really mean this. This is not a Harry Potter book.
A refrain was the matter of blood purity. First a delegate from the Great Russia (a party twice refused registration) reminded that Russian’s are God’s chosen. Stanislav Vorobiev built upon the messianic concept, explaining that remembering that you have even a bit of Russian blood make you a Chosen. Aleksandr Ivanov-Sukharevsky, a film director and a descendant of “Empire’s Cossack stronghold”, really pushed the envelope. Reiterating that the Russian people is an imperial people, and defining himself as an “imperialist intolerant to heathens and foreigners”, he proclaimed that the Russian Empire fell because of “undervaluing blood purity”. There was uproar and scandal, but he did get his share of applause.
Oy vey!
Once the smell of incense became overwhelmed by pierogi, the assembly took a break, a fairly modest one – water, juice, no gastronomical temptations for the patriot amidst the Fast. As the speakers replenished their fire, I kept pecking them for opinions. Here are a few highlights.
Nikolai Aratyunov, head of Northern Eurasia, a movement that promises to build a “just and sustainable society based on the ethics of traditional values”, asserted that the people is guided by the state as a source of the national idea, and concluded that a Tsar has to be earned.
Nikolai Truschalov, another representative of RIM, explained that he accepted monarchism at 22. He’s 37. Nikolai claims that nationalist-monarchist views are gaining popularity. That said, his ally from the Alliance of the Russian people – which Truschalov considers a semi-virtual group – claims its membership numbers are “classified”.
Judging by the speakers’ claims, theory and propaganda are not the only things on agenda. The movement has its own paramilitary unit, formed of veterans that fought with the rebels of Novorossiya. Roughly 300 total. RIM has adult and child sports section, along with intensified combat training for adults at RUR 16k a week. The head of staff of the Imperial Legion is a Denis Gariev, 39. A historian, a monarchist by Christian faith, and a former conscript. He confirms that the “Orthodox unit” fought in Donbass in the name of the Russian Empire and states:
”The issue of the Monarchy is not decided by men. If God wills it, it will be so. But readiness is all.
And so, they wait – for a miracle, for a mystery, for a new dynasty, looking into the past, glancing towards the future, trying to find a leg to stand on in the present. Await loyally, and for a while. Will their time ever come?
And before you stop laughing, there’s also a President of the USSR still running around. He promises to bring the past back… if you give him all your money.
